Similarly to New Tecumseth, Adjala-Tosorontio had also submitted a letter (see below) to the Ontario Government to comment on the proposed expansion of Everett. In this letter, the Township emphasizes the fact that any possible expansion MUST be completed following comprehensive planning and responsible engineering processes!

RE: ERO #026-0383 – Addressing Growth and Housing Needs in South Simcoe _______________________________________________
Dear Minister Flack,
Thank you for the opportunity to provide input on Environmental Registry of Ontario (ERO) Posting #026-0383 Addressing Growth and Housing Needs in South Simcoe.
The Township of Adjala-Tosorontio (Township) and Everett Community Partners Inc. (ECP) have had positive discussions regarding the potential future development of their lands identified as Proposed Priority Project, ID: 7, located on the west side of the settlement area of Everett. Discussions have focused on how the community of Everett will grow, including the provision of municipal water services and increasing the capacity of the new Everett Wastewater Treatment Plant to service additional growth within an expanded settlement area boundary. The Township is very appreciative of the government’s significant funding support for new water and wastewater infrastructure in Everett that will support the future growth of the community.
While the Township agrees with the general concept of growth within an expanded community of Everett as identified as Proposed Priority Project, ID: 7, there are a number of technical studies to be completed to verify and support the specifics of the future growth to occur. Furthermore, any future growth should be subject to comprehensive planning and engineering exercises, which we look forward to working in conjunction with Everett Community Partners Inc. on.
The Township has been and will continue to work in cooperation with ECP on potential future growth opportunities within an expanded Everett but cannot support the specific housing and population growth numbers noted within the project information associated with Proposed Priority Project, ID: 7 at this time, as there is more work to be done in that regard. As the development works continue to move forward, with proper planning and engineering, a clearer and more defined community will come into focus with population growth numbers that both the Township and ECP can agree on.

Significant growth proposed by the Province for Adjala-Tosorontio!

ERO posted with Comments
Yesterday (April 7, 2026), the Province accepted the County of Simcoe’s Official Plan Amendment 7 (OPA 7) and also made modifications to certain parts of it. The County’s OPA 7 originally identified that our township had a population of 11,260 in 2021 and calculated growth to 2051 for an additional 710 people. This plan, which was approved by the County, did not consider growth in Colgan and Everett, which at the time of approval was already in advanced stages of approval. Our population with just the growth in Colgan blows past these calculations. As a result, in its approval yesterday of the County’s OPA 7, a carve out was made relating to population growth in South Simcoe with the province determining future growth considerations in line with the ERO’s posted by the province in August of 2025.
In the latest post made today by the Province in the Environmental Registry of Ontario (ERO), the Province identified a Priority Project for Everett. This is the Everett West Proposal which is a project for which an application for has not yet been made to the Township. Despite this, the proposal seeks to increase the population of Everett Settlement by 16,800 people. Two additional elementary schools, a community center are being proposed at this time.
The growth is not limited to Everett. There will also be additional growth to the north of the new Colgan Settlement area. This will develop the lands from Colgan to Keenansville. The details of that project include an additional 1500 homes (which if we calculate at 3.1 people per home is about 4650 people). There would also be a new School and Community Center as part of this Application.
Growth is being forced on our region as a whole. Are we ready for it? Have we done the prerequisite work required to manage this growth? Do we have the information required to make the best deals for our community? At this time, it is imperative that we proceed with visioning and planning to ensure that the proposals in our area are in line with the needs of the community.m to where they are.
